Subhas Das

Date of birth - 19-05-1960

Subhas Das is a popular singer from Orissa. Das? initial interest in music was fuelled by his uncle Premanda Das. Later he learnt music from Guru Muralidhar Giri Deepak Basu and Pandit J. V. S. Rao.

As a singer he gained fame when he performed on All India Radio and for Doordarshan Kendra in 1977 and 1982 respectively. He is also a popular playback singer.  

a full melodious voice that made him an obvious choice of music directors for playback. The song ?Kuhu kuhu bane kuhu kuhu? from Sati Anusuya with Vani Jairam placed him far ahead of his peers in terms of popularity. After that there was no looking back and he carved a niche for himself in playback singing in Oriya as well as in other languages.

Till date he has sung on more than 500 Oriya albums. He has toured extensively in foreign countries at the invitation of Oriya communities. His voice can often be heard on the programmes of AIR and Doordarshan. He is considered a major asset of the Oriya music industry.

Presently stationed at Cuttack Subhas Das continues to work in the field of individual albums and film playback. His wife Subhalaxmi Das is also a singer of repute; together the couple has worked on a few albums. Today Subhas Das is considered one of the most dynamic and vibrant voices in Oriya music.
