Bijay Mohanty is the most versatile actor of Oriya Film Industry till date. He is a trained actor from NSD, New Delhi. His batch-mates are Nasseruddin Shah, Raj Babbar, Om Puri.

After passing from NSD, he chose theatre to show his talent. He acted in many plays in Delhi and then came to Orissa and directed some plays here also. His first film was Chilika Tire in 1977 which got National Award that year. He has acted in various roles like villain, hero, comedian, father, grandfather, brother etc.

Bijay Mohanty was born in Kendrapada and his schooling was at Baripada, Mayurbhanj. After completing Graduation in Arts he has applied in NSD. He has married to his co-actress Tandra Ray.
